• Kajetanowicz wins FIA ERC Ice Master classification with sizeable advantage
• FIA ERC Ice Master title goes to a Polish driver for the second time in a row
• 17 stage victories on snow and ice for LOTOS Rally Team crew so far in 2015
• Kajetanowicz: the only driver who won FIA ERC titles in two different classifications: gravel (2014) and winter (2015)
Thanks
to fantastic stage times Kajetanowicz clinched FIA ERC Ice Master title
already at the beginning of Rally Liepāja: second round counting
towards "winter" championship. FIA ERC Ice Master title won by
Kajetanowicz means that LOTOS Rally Team driver has now two titles
awarded to surface specialists: in 2014 the Pole won FIA ERC Gravel
Master classification.
After winning 17 of 18 special stages in
Jännerrallye LOTOS Rally Team entered Rally Liepāja as leaders in both
overall championship and FIA ERC Ice Master standings. Thanks to
dominant performance in opening round Kajetan Kajetanowicz enjoyed huge
advantage in the latter classification, so in Latvia he clinched 2015
FIA ERC Ice Master title with top-three times on opening two special
stages, after retirement of his main rival. LOTOS Rally Team driver
already secured top position in "winter" championship, irrespective of
further results in Rally Liepāja.
FIA Ice Master classification
is based on stage results in two winter rounds of the championship:
Jännerrallye and Rally Liepāja. Every stage victory is worth 10 points
and other top five finishers are awarded with 6, 4, 2 and 1 point.
Kajetanowicz dominated the opening round and after winning 17 of 18
tests in Austria he scored 176 points out of 180 possible. Polish driver
added further valuable points in Latvia and secured FIA ERC Ice Master
title right at the beginning of the rally.
Winter and gravel
laurels are not the only achievements of Kajetanowicz in European
Championship. Four-time Polish Rally Champions scored three wins in
Rally Poland and received Colin McRae Flat Out Trophy twice. This
accolade is awarded for outstanding performance, ambition and impressive
pace in respective rallies.
Kajetan Kajetanowicz: – Incredible
feeling. While fighting on today’s stages, I was just focusing on fast
driving, I was not counting points. But of course I am very happy with
this achievement. FIA ERC Ice Master and Gravel Master titles show that
we are competitive in different conditions because you have to remember
that every winter, gravel or tarmac rally is different. Each of them has
its own characteristics, its own surprises, so everything – the feeling
and, in effect, quick pace – depends on the crew. It is a unique and
very important achievement for me because I very rarely have pleasure to
drive on snow and ice. This success is also very sweet because I had
and I still have great fun while driving in these conditions, which I do
not know very well. Everyone in LOTOS Rally Team has put a lot of
effort and heart in this result and I want to thank them all very much.
There is still a long way to go in this rally and we know our goal: the
most important thing is to fight for FIA European Rally Championship
title in overall classification.
